Flash Gordon Cancelled.

Just found out that Sci-Fi’s Flash Gordon series has been canceled. Apparently the rating’s were lower than expected. Yep…that’ll do it…blame the ratings.

If the storyline wasn’t so rubbish then maybe a few more people would have watched it. Skimping on the FX didn’t help matters. When you think of Flash Gordon you think of a buff heroic Teutonic god not a guy who still lives with his mother 6 years after leaving high school (no offense Mr Eric Johnson). You also think of strange alien planets with winged men and exotic women. Not a dodgy office building with the lights turned down low. Every episode ending in a cliff hanger and you know that you can’t wait until the next episode. Where was the scarey Ming? Where was his devilish menace? Ming in the new series looked just like a common-run-of-the-mill politician. Nothing scary about that.

Anyway, all I can say is that it was a mercy killing. Having watched the first couple of episodes I can understand why it won’t be back again. I think the producers tried to make a ‘Smallville’ type of programme for the younger audience but it backfired…BIGTIME. I mean come on, rifts in space? Ming the Merciless with hair? All that guff about his dad being lost on Mongo?

Why oh why did this series get greenlit?

C’mon Sci-Fi Channel, put some money into it next time. Failing that lets get some busty females into the mix, I mean, it worked with Hercules and Xena.
