Watchmen Spin-offs…Sorta.

Good news for Watchmen fans.

Five days after the movie is unleashed onto the cinemas, a dvd will appear in the stores containing all manner of Watchmen goodies. On the dvd will be an animated tale, “Tales of the Black Freighter” and also “Under the Hood”.

Tales of the Black Freighter will be a comic-within-a-comic and will showcase the story that runs parallel with “The Watchmen” as it will the story that a minor character reads throughout the movie. Zack Snyder first thought about filming this tale using the same techniques that he used for the movie 300 but the budgery would have gone up to $20million and so it was decided that it would just be filmed in the traditional animation style.

Under the Hood will be a documentary style of movie. Not much is known about this part but it will apparently focus on the back page content of the original graphic novel.

Finally there will be around 12 webisodes lasting 20-26 minutes each that will explain some of the more complex plots that will hopefully help out some of the film fans who have not read the original publication. This will be called “The Watchmen Motion Comic” and will be panel-by-panel slideshow of the original comic and will be narrated by an actor.
